Rotary Int’l District 3281 celebrates country’s golden jubilee with sweet fair
Dhaka: Rotary International District 3281 on March 26 celebrated the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence with a sweet fair held at the Tejgaon area in the capital. At the fair, they presented 50 different kinds of traditional sweets from 26 districts of Bangladesh.
Having all those traditional sweets, the respective 26 districts are renowned for, and which are part of the heritage of those regions, all in one place was what made the fair so unique.
The sweets included Nature's Kachagolla and Raghobshahi Swandesh, Pabna’s Paara Swandesh and Kataribhog, Chapainawabganj’s Adi Chamcham and Labang Mishti, Rajshahi’s Chana Jilapi and Raskadamb, Sirajganj’s Pantoya, Gurer Swandesh and Chana Jilapi, Bogura’s Khirsha, Doi, and Laddu, Meherpur’s Sabitrir Misti, Kushtia’s Tiler Bhaja, Shariatpur’s Bibikhana Pitha, Tangail’s Shada Chamcham, Kalojam, and Khir Mohon, Jashore’s Sadek Golla, Nawabganj’s Swadeber Malaichap, and Swandesh, Narayanganj’s Ladycany, Madaripur’s Swarpuriya, and Khir Chamcham, Rangpur’s Rasmanjuri, Rajbari’s Chamcham, Gopalganj’s Rasgolla of Dutta Sweets, Barishal’s Shoshir Chana Swandesh, Bhola’s Mohisher Doi, Nowakhali’s Langcha and Sponge Misti of Bing Saha Sweets, Narail’s Nolen Gur Swandesh, Dhaka’s Bakarkhani, Jhinaidah’s Pudingtonik, Faridpur’s Khir Chamcham, Dudhshar, Khirpuria and Gurer Paara Swandesh, Mymensingh’s Malaikari and Muktagachar Monda, and lastly Netrokona’s Balish Misti.

The idea behind this fair titled ‘Mistir Itikotha’ was to celebrate Bangladesh’s history and heritage of 50 years. Thus, all the sweets came with short descriptions of the respective districts they belong to which showcased the traditions, heritage, history, tourist places and liberation war stories, said Rubayet Hossain, District Governor of Rotary International District 3281.
At the event, the rotary district also commemorated the freedom fighters it has in its committee for their valuable contribution to bring the country’s independence. The fair also had musical performances and a cake-cutting ceremony attended by the members of the Rotary district.
