Singapore eyes deeper cooperation with Bangladesh in ports, aviation, logistics

Dhaka: Singapore has reaffirmed its interest in expanding cooperation with Bangladesh in the ports, aviation and logistics sectors, alongside pursuing a bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and collaboration in digitalisation and carbon credits.

The issues were discussed during a meeting on July 21 between Singapore's Charge d’Affaires Mitchel Lee and Mahdi Amin, Adviser and Spokesperson at the Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Office.

According to the Singapore mission, Lee briefed the Bangladeshi official on Singapore’s ongoing interest in Bangladesh's port and logistics sector, as well as the aviation industry, including support for the digitalisation of airports and other government services.

The Singaporean diplomat also highlighted his country's intention to conclude a bilateral Free Trade Agreement with Bangladesh, strengthen cooperation on carbon credits, and enhance capacity-building programmes for Bangladeshi government officials.

Beyond infrastructure and trade, the two sides discussed cooperation in education and human resource development. Singapore expressed its willingness to share its experience, particularly in vocational education and skills development.

The meeting was described as constructive, with both sides expressing interest in further engagements to deepen bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Singapore.
